First draft complete

Ok, so I've been harping on about my third year animated short. Well now I've got a first draft of a "script"! I say script, but there's no dialogue or anything. If there's any speaking in this short, it'll be in a fantasy language, cos I wanna keep this piece internationally understandable, and having it be a fantasy film makes it that little bit easier. lol

The working title is "Taebus Key", and it's about two elves and an evil faun. I don't wanna give away too much cos alot of it's subject to change, but you're gonna see me learn ALOT of new things, like forests, water and clouds.

I've also got the two elf characters almost finished - I'm now just working on hands and clothes. But I've still gotta get started on the faun. He's a tall, shackled character and will be pretty cool to see once animated. No teaser images yet, but sooner or later, I'll add something pretty.

For the past few weeks, I've been in animation hell. I'm trying to install Softimage XSI (my lovely lil CG animation program) but it's designed for PC and I have a Macbook! So, I install Parallels on my mac to run pc software.... doesn't work. I install Boot Camp for my mac to do the same a different way... doesn't work cos it can't find the internet!! GRR!!!

I'm starting to wonder if this is gonna work.

I'll let you guys know how it goes...

Year 3 approacheth

Ok, I know it's a little early to be starting a new project, but this is preparing for next year's short. I'm not gonna give away the story yet, cos it's still in the works, but here's a taster of things to come. I've been learning some new techniques, like "subsurface scattering" - a trick used by Pixar and other CG studios to make skin look more realistic. Anyhoo, enjoy your present!

cafe set's done

Yay, I've learnt how to texture things (basically at least.... VERY basically). And now the set's looking pretty good. Shame it takes so long for the university computers to render.
Anyways, next step is to record the audio, key it, and animate. It'll take a while to do, but will look awesome when finished. I just hope they give me a grade that reflects the amount of work I've put into this baby! lol

Cafe Set Building

So here's the latest work from my two minute short called The Veteran. This is the till furniture for the cafe set that Harold will be sitting in. It's sorta supposed to look english and boring. I think it just about works. Lemme know what you think.

my merchandise

I have an account over at cafepress, which means y'all can find stuff of my design! Head on over to http://www.cafepress.com/callmemilo/ and you'll see stuff like this.

the plot ain't what it used to be

That's right - Harold's no longer a tsuedo-documentary outtake comedy thing. Now it's the tragedy of an old alone man in a cafe, but he's still reminising about WW2. The pic in this post is of Hamed - the frycook at the cafe Harold's sitting in.

Harold is rigged!

Ok, so Harold's looking pretty good so far. Have to present him to a class of 15 fellow animation students and our two tutors on friday afternoon, for which I need at least 20 seconds of this animated. Which means I need to script and record dialogue tonight! And I still have to drawn up my storyboards!! Wish me luck!!!

Harold

This is Harold - the star of the next animated short I'm making called The Veteran! It's about a british WW2 soldier who, in his last years, is giving an interview in his home. But his heroic accounts, told while he flashes back to WW2, are constantly interrupted by his wife (Audrey) who corrects Harold's exaggerated accounts.

The short will be a CG animated comedy and about 2-3 minutes long. Hope you all enjoy when it's done!

P.S. In this picture, there are no textures or anything, so hopefully the final thing will be much more impressive.
